How did this get buried by bot threads? I swear they know as soon as I post something. It never fails that as soon as I put up a post, the bots invade the threads with stories about how to write good term papers. How many people here are writing term papers any way?

Brisul, I guess you have a following (although it's bots). On point though, I really don't know why people who play word games need essay-writing help. Do they think we know words, but just can't put them together?

I used to play scramble when it was on facebook and before I left (the two things coincided) and the longest word I ever found was 11 letters. Since 2009 or so, the 12 letter word has been my Moby Dick. I'm constantly looking for 12 letter words in life because it's such a perfect number of letters, months, years in a Chinese zodiac, levels of schooling, etc...

Well, now I've found it! What do I do next?

If they think we can't put them together, it's pretty clear that they can't put them together, anyway. So, perhaps they think we can't read. On the other hand, bots are really dumb. They post because they can. They're the computer equivalent of dandelion fluff. Or herpes. It depends on how much they bother you.

Congratulations Brisul! Are you going for a 16-letter word next?

Those spambots are annoying, and what's even more annoying is that if you want to flag several nearly identical posts as spam, you have to wait for 60 seconds between reports. So it takes 5 seconds to spot 3 bits of spam and 5 seconds to report one, but at least two minutes to report all three.

The thought occurred to me that perhaps Brisul is correct, and the spam bots ARE following him around. That implies that they know where he visits, which means Brisul has a virus monitoring where he goes and using that to create and post spam. I dunno. It seems at least possible to me. Have you run an AV scan recently?

I tend to think it's coincidence, but I could be wrong, of course. One way to kind of check is to google some of these names (like rosesandra or RichardNolan553) and see where else they post. (They are on other game forums, as well as some other kinds of sites.) If there's any overlap to other sites you frequent, that would be a warning sign.

I tried RichardNolan553. There might be a real one (an artist, in Kansas City), but also found indications that someone with a Ukraine IP address has posted using that name.

Brisul, I didn't mean to imply that all your followers might be bots. Real people are interested in your accomplishments too. Congratulations on your 12 letter word! (Go for 13, unless you're triskaidekaphobic.)

If we all just agreed to report one random spam post as they show up, that wouldn't take up much of our time. (Of course, if they disappear too quickly after that, some of the better responses wouldn't happen.)
