Reminds me of our Canadian province Quebec. In a country where English and French are the 2 official languages federally, they have made it illegal to have a sign using English (even for English businesses) in their province.
Ah, yes, French -- a language for which there exists a government agency whose job it is to make sure the language remains "pure" by inventing, if necessary, a proper French word, term, or phrase so that no foreign one can ever sneak in. For all the good the French have done, and it is considerable, their "defense" of their language goes a really long way in the other direction. This seems another example of French insularity.
