View Full Version : Boggle moments that just tick me off! :)

So maybe my mind isn't all here today because I've had a stomach virus, or maybe the fever simply burned out a few of my brain cells.
I've played about 5 games today and every time I finish, I see that I missed about a dozen very obvious words, or series of words. For instance I missed a whole "ai" section that would have given me 'rain, strain, sprain' etc. What ticks me off even more, is I was only 10 points from beating the high score and had a few seconds left to type them, if I would have just seen it!
Ok, so I'm done venting. Anyone else have those moments that make you want to smash your keyboard? :)

Ooh, I hate that too.
Even worse though is seeing a great word at the last second and having the game end with the whole word typed in the box, but unsubmitted :(

Yes, that one gets me too! Sometimes I have that entire window full of words after I have ran out of time LOL

Hi,
I know what you mean about almost beating the record and not being able to type in the last word. All I needed was one more three letter word to beat the most points per game and most words per game, although I didn't know it until time was up. After time was up I saw so many three letter ones it was pitiful.
Has anyone checked their blood pressure after playing this game??? It actually does go up!

I can't type to save myself, so I use the mouse and it really is soooo much slower. But since I'm addicted to boggle, I just mouse away . . .

You know I'm going through a slump today evidently and it's frustrating. I'm not tired. I feel alert. Still my scoring average is noticeably down. I've had quite a few games where I haven't come close to the record, two of which were mine. I'm going to stop for a while, but in answer to the original poster of this thread, yes it's frustrating when you don't understand why you're not playing as well as you think you ought to.

For some boards I like to write the record score down before I start. For whatever reason it seems easier to find words if you're close to the record and there's not much time left.
ataraxia, I know that feeling too... although usually my reason is just numb fingers :o
I think the thing that ticks me off is missing the enter key to submit a word and instead hitting the \ key. The faster I try to go, the more \\\\ I hit. Sometimes I don't even realize I hit the\ key and press enter and nothing happens.

I know what you mean. I have done exactly that when time is running out and I had a great 14 letter q word or some other word that would have given me a new record, etc. Sickening isn't it??? Have you ever checked your blood pressure after playing this game? I don'e even want to know!

How about hitting a wrong key when spelling like I did when I wrote don'e instead of don't. Typing too fast like when playing I guess...

Yes I have checked my blood pressure after playing Boggle for a few hours...it was HIGH!! My doctor asked if could find a game that was a little less stressful. I probably can but it won't be as much fun. I love this game.

Has anyone else had an ad cover the screen completely and block the board? Then you have to wait for it to load completely before you can get rid of it. By that time a bunch of time has gone by...Admin will deal with the annoyers (is that a Boggled word?) if you note the address bar and send it to him...if you can concentrate on all that is happening at once, that is!

I've never had that happen. The ads are always on the side and I just ignore them. They've never distrupted a game for me. What browser are you using?

Internet Explorer on Charter Cable. It has happened about 15 times since July when I started playing. The admin seemed to been familiar with it because he dealt with it for the most part. The other day an ebay thing came up. It took about 15 seconds to get it off. It comes on at the beginning of the game, too. The rest of the game after that I am panicking trying to catch up! I agree with the high blood pressure thing that was mentioned somewhere else in the forum!! It has to be high after some of these games..

Did you see that thread under FAQ where you can list words that should have been included in the accepted words? The admin says he will try to keep them up to date when he sees words that should be acceptable but aren't in there. Hope this helps. That would have been a good one...good for a longest word mention!

I was playing one and the word worth the most points was xystoi:mad: . I looked it up and it was the name of some guy. i don't think you can do that in the real board game. Does it have a REAL definition?

It's a word. The plural of xystos, apparently.
www.lexic.us seems to have every SOWPODS-valid word. I've got it set to a quicksearch in firefox, so if I want to check if something's a word I just type "lx word".
