Hi folks -
Have been getting a lot of requests for 5x5 game boards. The code is completed, I just need to figure out the best way to integrate this into the site. It'd be a big help if I could quickly gauge our userbase on how they like to play - whether they prefer only 4x4, only 5x5, or whether - if they had the option - they'd play a 50/50 mix of each. So, if you have a sec to respond to this poll, please do. Thanks!

:) I love 5 x 5 not that good at it but it is a challenge. Usually get the pants beaten off me but it's fun and that's what it's all about!! However, still think you should cater for the 4 x 4 on a different programme if you can!! Computer technology is not my scene but you all are doing a great job, Thanks.:D

I bite at 5x5 and some would say the same about the 4x4 would you be able to keep the rankings different? Have two hall of fames? Could you keep everything seperate? holly::eek:

I vote for only 4x4's
hey i do hope that you can keep both seperate as far as scoring but for me
4 X 4 for general play and 5 X 5 for a once and a while challenge
GREAT job with this site by the way, best of its kind on the web!

Thanks everyone - just to make it clear, the 4x4 game boards, history, records, etc. will be kept completely separate from the 5x5 game boards, history, records, etc. The big question for me right now is whether its worth integrating both game boards into the one existing site, or just creating a new, separate site for the 5x5 boards - i.e. http://5x5.boggled.org or something to that effect.
Right now just trying to get a feel for whether folks would generally opt for one board over the other, or if there's a large number of folks who would genuinely be interested in playing both types of boards on a regular basis.
Thanks!

I love the 5x5 boards- lots more more options, and longer words... Once you get used to the additional challenge, it's addicting.
Thanks!

Just an update - the codebase for 5x5 games is now loaded and initial testing completed. I'm going to wait until September 1st to officially "launch" them, just to keep things clean and not to interfere with the last few days of the August 4x4 competitions.
The 5x5 games will be played just the same as the 4x4 games are, with two slight differences:
1. Only words with four or more letters will be considered valid. (Three letter words will not be allowed - they're just too easy to find on a 5x5 board).
2. Games will last 3 minutes. Because of the extra level of difficulty it was decided to allow an extra minute of game-play for each board. (4x4 boards currently allow 2-minutes of game play).
All records for high scores, best words, longest words, average scores, etc. etc. will be completely separate between 4x4 and 5x5 games. This means that after September 1st there will be 2 halls of fame, as well as 2 sets of ongoing monthly competitions and 2 sets of trophy rooms - one each for 4x4 and 5x5.
This means there are going to be a lot of stats floating around out there so I'm going to do my best to organize and sort them in a meaningful and efficient way.
Anyway, that's the latest update in the world of 5x5. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post them here. Thanks!

:) Hi I always play the 5 x 5 I find it more challlenging but I mouse as I can't type at alll. Even though you can play 4s on the 5 x 5 I never do. Not worried about the overall score just try for the best and biggest words!! lol Great fun and can't wait until this site gets the individual games like Atari did!! I know they are working on it. I really like this site and the people that have designed it because they really listen to suggestions which is more than Atari did!!!!!!! Cheers for now and keep supporting this site as I know it will be the best eventually

I love 5x5, although I play 4x4 about 50% of the time.
5x5 is great because you can find a lot of new words instead of constantly trying to get the plural and the singular of a given noun. Just my two cents.
