I've had this happen many times where I will type in a word and it will be "checking" for lots of seconds. While it is "checking" it won't let you type in any more words. I've had it "checking" on a word for 45 seconds before, which means that you can't type in any words for 45 seconds because it's essentially frozen. I just pile them up in my head and type when I'm allowed to. But still, that really hurts your score. Other than that, I have no concerns. This is a great game/website online! Thanks!

This has happened to me, although not as bad as 45 seconds :O.

i know someone else who has had this problem before. it gets quite annoying especially if youre not looking at the box where you type stuff in, so you end up typing words in, and it hasnt accepted them.

Have you made sure that you dont have any other internet intensive programs running. Ive found that the delay is increased significantly if youre using your internet connection lots ( large downloads, streaming media ) as it has to wait for a free space before sending the request.

A similar problem ive also seen is that between the server starting your game, and the page actually coming up on your screen can sometimes be 5 seconds, so the timer starts at 115. I'd also recommend using firefox and adblock to stop the page wasting time loading up the adverts.

I'm having similar problems as described by other players. For one thing, sometimes I type a word and it isn't accepted fast enough: the message "Checking word" appears and I can't type any more words in or it just strings them together into nonsense. Also, sometimes it checks endlessly and I can't play for 30 seconds or so and then the Time's Up appears and instead of calculating my score, it eventually shows the Page Not Found screen. Then I have to disconnect from the internet and reconnect in order to get out of whatever glitch has taken place. This happens daily, although not every time I play. Also, I'm having the same problem as others in that at the beginning of the game, the time starts at less than 120 seconds; when I first see the puzzle and the timer, it's around 115 or even 112. I love this site, so it would be great it these kinks could be worked out.:)

Unfortunately we occasionally have slowdowns like this during peak traffic hours. I'm constantly optimizing the scripts and upping server resources to combat this - its just that traffic has been increasing exponentially over the past several weeks, much faster than I'd anticipated.

Apologies for this! Hoping to keep these "slow times" to a minimum. I'm also working on an alternate playing board which can be used during peak hours, which will hopefully speed things up a bit (the downside, it won't tell you immediately whether the words you've entered are valid or not - you'll only see this on the final tally screen).

Thanks for your explanation and update on optimizing the site. I personally don't check frequently to see if the word I play is valid immediately, because it slows me down -- but it is a nice feature and would be great to keep it. Have you ever been to Spogg.com? That site has multiple grids going on at the same time -- the particular game that's like Boggled is "Spellbound." Downside of that site is lots of infantile chat and offensive personal images.
