Are there any CornerGas Prairie Scramble addicts out there? I am missing my game fix. Any other sites that you can suggest? It is nice to be able to see who is playing.

Hi leahandmitch, I recognize your name. I miss Prairie Scramble too. I was shocked to log in three days ago and find it gone. Happy gaming! KatyK

I kept the same name hoping that I would end up finding other lost souls from Prairie Scramble. That was why I found the CornerGas logo to use for an avatar as well. I wonder how many of us will end up here? The scoring on this is much higher, and it seems that there are more words on the boards than we are used to. It isn't quite the same, but I have not found anything else that is close. Happy playing & let me know if you find a site where you can see who is playing at the time.

Hi again,
I know what you mean about "lost souls" and wanting to see who is playing. I got a kick out of looking for people like Erna and Sixteeschild when I'd sign on. Did you find that you'd consistently beat the same players by one or two points? I was usually firmly in the middle, but slowly making my way up. I'm missing having the bonus words to find.
I'll let you know if I find games where you can see who is playing, and would you do the same? Thanks! Happy playing!

I was usually around the middle as well, sometimes higher, depending who was playing. I actually beat Erna once, I was thrilled. Baranthar was another one who was usually up there, but I did manage to score higher than him a few times. It was always more fun to play when you recognized the names, I think it added to the challenge. I still find myself looking for the bonus words. I was looking at the hall of fame last night and found dd1026 on there. I am not sure if that is the same person from Prairie Scramble or not. Maybe there is some gamer/computer geek out there who will come up with a site for us. We can only hope.

Hi,
I looked for lovetolaugh, and someone else with a name similar to that. The name had the word "life" in it. Koalahug was around for a few months, and then disappeared. I remember Baranthar as well. I beat him a few times, but never Erna. I always tried to beat Magic. Sometimes I could, and sometimes I couldn't. It must have felt great to beat Erna. That's quite a feat. I always imagined her as a retired school librarian typing away, gleefully beating us all. I agree that it's more fun when you can see the names. It does add to the challenge.
I saw "foo" and "gas" in the same puzzle last night. :-) It's raining and fairly cold here, so it's a night I will spend at these scrambles working to get better.
I was thinking of setting up a community on Facebook for Prairie Scrambler fans. Do you think anyone would be interested? Perhaps we could find more players and new games. Good luck playing, and here's hoping someone will set up a similar game to Prairie Scramble, or we can find one that already exists! Katyk

Hey KatyK,
Another lost soul looking for a place to migrate to.Glad to find you guys.(wanna say hey to LeahandMitch too) I had a good fun trying to beat certain players too, and I was watching your scores ...it was fun to see if our scores raised and lowered together on different boards.I was wondering what happened to coffeeplease who dissapeared a while ago-I was getting similar scores to theirs when I played as dtaylor007.
I think you may be talking about danceswithlife.
I had lost internet access for about a week, then to my great dismay I saw that the game was gone.It was pretty much the game I always played, and surprised to find myself totally addicted to the game (and the show too of course).
Your idea for face book site is great.I would come along for the ride.

Count me in too. I wonder if some of the players may have found another game to play before Prairie Scramble disappeared, or if they just lost interest. I like your description of Erna, kind of fits my vision of her as well. So far I have not found another site that is close, but I will keep looking. I always preferred playing when there were lots of others playing at the same time. Somehow it just wasn't as much fun if there were only one or two others playing.

I'm on my way to work this morning, but had to say hi! I was surprised to see you, Sixteeschild, to say the least. Did you see your name earlier in the thread? You and I used to go back and forth for the last month or so.
I'll look into setting up a facebook site for us. There are already several set up for Corner Gas fans, but I haven't found any for Prairie Scramble. I'll let you know how I do. :o
Leahandmitch, what a great idea to post here. It's been fun to log on, and visit with "old friends". Katyk

Hi Katyk,
I was surprised to see my name in the thread, and it was fun playing against you. Wish we could do that on boggle. My boggle game is improving, now that I am getting used to the board.
I think there may be games where we can see each others scores, haven't had time to really check it out yet.
You can email me if you want-my screen name @gmail.com.
Gotta go to work here too.

Ok, I found a site that is much like Prairie Scramble, www.wordsplay.net you have to register your email, then activate your account & pick a screen name. I have stuck with leahandmitch again. They have a 4 x 4 game with a 3 minute timer, about 20 seconds between games. The board position is a little strange to get used to as it is, but you can move the play board as well as the player score boards around. There are also teams that you can form. I did not do anything about a team because I wanted to try it out first. I suppose we could form a CornerGas or Prairie Scramble team. Scoring is much like it was on Prairie Scramble, 1 point for 3 or 4 letter words, no bonus words tho. I am going to play with it for a bit and see how I like it. I will update this post later. Hope to see some familiar names there.

Hi! We're up and running on Facebook. Write Corner Gas Prairie Scramble in the search bar, and you should find it easily----I hope. I've never done anything like that before, and have only been on Facebook for about a month.
Leahandmitch, I'm glad that you imagined Erna like I did. We're probably totally wrong, but it's fun to guess. I just saw your latest post. I'll be there. A Prairie Scramble team sounds great!
Hope to see you two soon on Facebook! Let me know if it doesn't work. katyk

I played a bit on wordsplay today. It is a little different to get used to. Scoring is lower than on Scramble, and a whole lot lower than on wordtwist. It is kind of a rude awakening to go back to somewhat more normal scores rather than the high ones I have been able to get on this site.
It would be nicer if you did not have to click on the player score area to see who else is playing. You can see the top 5, and then the 2 above & below your score, and to see the rest you have to click on the line that says to see players 6 - whatever. I did see you Sixteeschild on one game. I am not sure about the rotate board feature, it is ok if you are really having a problem, but not the way I am used to playing, the words were either there or not, no rotating to find them. I do not know how the team thing works, if you can play with a team & then change the team or go back to playing as an individual. You definitely have to rearrange the placing of everything to make it easier to play. I closed the little menu on the left, moved the player scores to the left, the game board & guess box to the middle, and left the word list for the last round on the right, and put my word score/guesses on the right. That seemed to make it a little better. Still not quite the same, but I will keep looking.

Whoops! Try: corner gas prairie scramble players. I think that should work. I hope you can find it. Tell me again if you can't. I'm determined to make this work!

I haven't tried the facebook site yet. I will let you know if I have any problems. I know the wordsplay isn't quite the same, and the rotating the board is a legal cheat, but so far nothing better. I know it is harder to track the players. I did send an email to the admin on this site with a suggestion for a game like Prairie Scramble. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for the correction. I was hoping it wasn't senility on my part.:)
I was trying to think of some of the other players names:Tony Marino (who i can't help envisioning as a mob boss sitting in some smoky room passing out orders):D
I can no longer resist telling you guys that I am a Librarian. The talk of Erna was so funny!(we have a few just like that at work).
I was also wondering about the different time zones.I'm on central standard time. Obviously having trouble sleeping right now.
Is Canada just an hour or two different?

:p I've wondered how many teachers (me) and librarians were playing! :p What a hoot! I'm in the Pacific Zone. I'm trying to think of some other names--airdoktor....oh, I loved Jimmythewrench. I'd giggle everytime I'd see that name. I pictured a mechanic in his coveralls holding a wrench. Back to work today...Have a good day! katyk

Well we know we have a librarian, a teacher & a travel consultant (me). Here in Saskatchewan we never change time, so right now we are only 1 hour ahead of katyk, winter we are 2 hours ahead. There were a few other names that made me wonder, Cheddarella, nipigongolfer, byhuronbush, (that one always made me thing of the surveilance bush on Corner Gas) just a few off the top of my head.

It's evening. I had a field trip to the Coast on Wednesday. It rained sideways. The wind buffeted us. My students were telling me that they had "mild hypothermia." They never fail to crack me up. We were outside for nearly six hours. Today we had a trip to Champoeg park. It was 72 degrees--a little better. :p I'm beyond exhausted. I think it's time to play a few games, and then head for bed. Wait, it's 6:43 P.M.
I loved byhuronbush. I could never figure out what that meant. There was a swegleroad. Maybe I'll see one of you on the board. katyk

Well, rats! :( I'm not sure how to help. Leahandmitch got on. Any ideas, leahandmitch? I've been waiting to see you on Facebook, sixteeschild. I'm trying to think of what may be happening. I am not sure why you are having the problem with facebook. Here is what I did & it worked fine, I logged in then I pasted this
- corner gas prairie scramble players - in the seach box on face book. It took me right there. Make sure when you copy & paste that you do not have a space before corner, or after players & it should work. Good luck & good playing over the weekend.

PS
I like the 3 Musketeers idea, and yes the odds are likely in the neighbourhood of winning the lottery, which I did not do last night. Oh well.

Kaytk-You are actually way more up to date on your new imac.Mine is a Clamshell laptop-fairly inexpensive used. Before that i had-well remember those commercials with the "new" mac in colors a few years back-oh my gosh-I think it's been 10 years.Anyhoo, mine was the first one in teal.It finally bit the dust. The poor thing. My husband said you could make a fish aquarium out of those. But I let the old clunker go.:)

Me too! I had the teal one as well. They were good little workhorses. The Apple Store bought it back when we bought the eMac (after we had scrubbed the hard drive about a million times). Apparently those weren't very popular as no knows what an eMac is.:D

I have to use the rotate to keep up.

I know what you mean. I saw one board that had only three vowels, and then one that had five "e"s. It is fun to look for you two. Sixteeschild, I had to laugh about your subbing experience. My husband taught middle school math and science for years. I taught middle school for a bit. I liked it, but it was a small, rural school--much different than LA, I'm sure.

05-17-2009, 10:06 PM

05-17-2009, 11:14 PM
I saw a kathyk. Was that you? I worked on the arrangement of the boxes, and I think it helped-my scores have been alright. I also noticed there is a feature where you can turn off the score so you don't know until your done.I think this not being distracted by it, my score increased a little.

05-18-2009, 12:02 AM
Hi....nope. I saw her too. I'm still just katyk. I've seen lots of versions of my name....a Kathleen, Kathy, Kathy K.... I hadn't seen any other Kathys on Corner Gas. I go by Kathy, but a good friend always called me Katy. I liked it, so I borrowed it for PS.
leahandmitch
05-18-2009, 10:34 PM
On Wordtwist you can tell if someone is online if the dot by their name is green. Then if you click on their name you get to their profile and can see their stats. I keep looking for either one of you to be on at the same time as me, but usually just miss. I always check to see if you hold any of the records when I am playing. I have hit a couple so far, on newer games.
On the Wordsplay site, the only way is to check the previous game scores, but then you don't know if they will be there for the new game. I have had some pretty good scores on it, but never made the top 10.
leahandmitch
05-19-2009, 12:54 AM
The scramble game on facebook is pretty close to PS. There are several versions of it, the one I was playing was just scramble. You can see who is playing, see the scores, 3 minute timer. It does not allow some of the words that are actually in dictionaries - nek - is one I ran across. There are several rooms to play in, and you can challenge someone to a game.

Nice reference! So who is Athos, Porthos or Aramis (yes, I had to look them up to make sure--it's been many, many years since I've read that novel)? Patrick is our d'Artagnan.
