Hi folks -

Just wanted to post a notice that I'll be out of the country from July 4th through 16th. Will do my best to answer all emails and questions posted to the boards when I get back.

In the meantime, happy solving!

we have been playing boggle for a fairly short time and are also inexperienced computer users.
we would like to post new words on the post it site but are unable to figure out how to do this.
Please help.
We have also had problems with acceptance of some words that sometimes are accepted but not other times and partucularly "jean". Others times, new words, previously not tried, have not been accepted eg doubt, naiad, zoist, setts (plural only).
We suggest too that the hall of fame has an annual restart otherwise the top people will never be challenged and new people won't get a chance.
You have previously said that games are finished when about 95% of words have been found. Would it be possible to have a countdown of the words to be found before a game is retired?
Another point, when a game is played for the first time, would it be possible when the game is over, to have the list of words played in the way that it is displayed in subsequent games?
Could we have a larger "submit" box and a larger box where the words are typed out whilst the game is being played?
Sometimes the cursor is missing from the type-in box.
Finally, for the time being, :) , we have played another version of boggle on another site but much prefer this one. Keep up the good work!!!
Yours sincerely, mandc.

Hi mandc -

Thanks for your feedback!

As of right now we've locked in on the standardized SOWPODS dictionary, which is used in Scrabble tournaments and has proven to be fairly comprehensive. In the majority of cases so far where people have thought a word wasn't being recognized, it was actually just unplayable on that specific board - I'm working on a better feedback system so that the script will return "Not playable" as well as "Invalid word" to distinguish each from the other.

Also later this month we'll be unveiling "Monthly Competitions" which will start from scratch at 12.01am on the 1st of every month. These competitions will run for total points accrued as well as best average score, best average number of words, longest word played, etc. etc. At the end of each month, digital "trophies" will be awarded to all the highest-ranked players, and these will be permanently viewable in your profile page. (Those familiar with Cryptograms.org will understand better how it will work).

You don't need to do anything to enter these competitions - just playing under a registered name will automatically make you eligible, and in fact, we've been counting August's stats since the beginning of the month. Certain restrictions will be in place - for example, players will have to solve X number of games before they are eligible for certain competitions (average word score, average score per game, etc.)

I'll also look into increasing the size of the submit box and word entry form.

Thanks again for the feedback, and happy solving!

I have a question about flags as well . . . The flag next to my name is American, but I live in Spain. What is the reason for this? Not that it makes much of a difference to me, but I'm curious to know why this is.
