View Full Version : Boards Not Retiring?

I was wondering if the board retiring function is currently working...

Just now I played a board where I got no new words, and there were already 98 out of 98 words found, so that board theoretically should have been retired already.

I've also noticed that more and more all the new games I generate have already been played 100+ times, and often 150+ times, and I see fewer and fewer new or scarcely played boards.

So I was curious :)

Hello -

The criteria for retiring boards has been altered recently, mainly in an attempt to increase the number of new boards. I'm doing my best to keep up the supply of fresh boards but these days, with more than 12,000 registered users, new boards don't last as long as they used to!

That's cool... thanks for the update :)

What are the board retirement criteria now?

I don't see why boards need to retire just because all the words were found. It can happen pretty quick specially since there are a number of people who can get 70-100 words in one shot. This would kinda retire quite a few before us slower people and new people can even get a chance to try it.

If that is a big deal to some better players, then maybe creating an Archive 4X4 and archive 5X5 - click choice area would be good. Though I have played boggle types other places, I am new here and just getting used to the fast typing. I would not mind going to another area and playing a "retired" "used up" board. This would give me a chance to play and improve. I would still want the timer and even the best scoring to see how I did. I don't mind having to do the same board over a few times. To me it is practice and would probably more relaxing.

I totally agree. I'm not an experienced player - average about 20 words per game. I reckon I could play the same board quite a few times before I was done with it.

When I see the "found words" at the end I'm absolutely astonished that I could not see most of them, even though I'd been staring at the board for a full 15 seconds before finding my next word.

Maybe an option to use boards that have been played fewer than xx times would work. You'd have to make the number high enough so the experts aren't always getting a fresh board - I like to see my words go green occasionally, or know that I have the longest word at least until the next person plays the board!! Me, I'll play any board.

I just had a board that had been played 307 times, and when the answers were revealed, it turned out that all of the words had been found (62 of 62) before I even played it.

Shouldn't this board have been retired already?

I, too, would like more new boards. I've been seeing boards that have been played over 500 times! and I've seen no new boards at all for over a week.

How many active boards are there?

howdy... just checking to see if board retiring is maybe having problems again.

i just played a board that had been played 400-some times, and when i was done, it showed me that i had found no new words, and 100 out of 100 words had already been found on the board.

so that one should be retired, but apparently has not been.

Since posting that last message, I've run into the same situation several times, including one board that had been played over 800 times and all the words had been found.

Is there still a sys admin presence here in the forums?
