Hi folks -
Just wanted to give everyone some advanced notice that I'm going to be upgrading the Wordtwist server sometime within the next few days. Not quite sure exactly when it will go through but I'm hoping to schedule the transition to take place during non-peak hours, roughly between 2am and 7am EST.
The site continues to attract more and more players (we'll likely register our ten-thousandth player this month!), and it seems we've outgrown our last upgrade after barely 9 months.
The new server will have roughly four-times the processing power of our current one, so I'm hoping this will help alleviate some of the slow page-loads (and non-page-loads), as well as some of the timer issues folks have been reporting.
Also, once the new upgrade is in place, I plan to begin rolling out several requested upgrades. The first will be Challenge a Friend. This new feature will appear at the end of a game on the results page, and will allow any registered player to challenge another registered player to solve the exact same game board you just finished. They'll see your score and your stats for that game and then try to beat them. Challenges can be completed within 1 week of being sent (you don't both need to be online at the same time), and once a challenge is completed, both players will see which words the other discovered, compare points and stats, etc. A challenge log will also be appended to your scorecard to keep track of wins/losses. (Note: Games played in "Challenge" mode will not count toward general competition statistics)
I'll post more information on the upgrade when I have it - thanks as always for playing!
