Why are the statistics of the board shown before the game is played?
People who play for stats can just keep refreshing the new game page until they come to a board with 300+ words, while the people who play for fun will just hit new game -> play.

I like the stats because I like to try and get a higher point word or more letters per word than the person holding the record. I never get the most words or highest point game because I don't type fast enough. Many of us play in the monthly competitions and the we pay attention to the stats for that reason. Also fun to get the green words that nobody has found yet.

why not?

personally, i like seeing the stats first. i don't play every board that comes up, but not because i only choose high-scoring boards. sometimes i'm in the mood for a fast-paced, high-scoring game, but sometimes i'm in the mood for a toughie where there are fewer words and it's more of a challenge to find them.

i think it's a nice feature that helps people tailor their use of the site in a way that's most fun and rewarding for them.
